Welcome back to another episode of My Perspective!

In this review, I will be going over a few photos that I took from a baseball game as UNF took on Georgia Southern. It was certainly a chilly one, but that won’t stop me from braving it out and watching a few guys I played ball with play under the bright lights.

For gear, you guessed it! Nikon D3s with the 70–200. Noticing a trend in my setup? Mostly cause I don’t have a money tree otherwise I would have a 300/400mm but hey, you use what you can.

I’ll be honest, recently I have felt in a sort of rut with my photos, mainly cause I feel like I go to the same spots and take the same things. On this day, I wanted to be more intentional with my photos, work on storytelling, and take/delete more photos while I was still at the game to have less work for me when I get home and edit.

Alright, now that that’s out the way, let’s dive into these photos.

Nikon D3s + 200mm @ 1/5000s, f3.2, ISO 1000

As I said, with a focus on storytelling and intentionality (is that a word?), there are only a finite amount of things you can shoot in the game. So with pregame, you can get a few different shots and things. Think of it as new sights and sounds. With the coaches meeting, you get the umpires and coaches all in one place. Different from the usual players. With many fields, the home team has to explain what is in play, what’s dead, and all the nooks that make their home field unique. That’s what I like about this photo.

I can’t remember if this game was before the inning started or during the actual game, but I really like this photo because of the facial expression and glove posed out. When you really think about it baseball is a game of repetition. Like I talked about before, I wanted to find new things and directions to take with the photos.

The mid-run pose is always awesome case it’s really a great way to show motion. I did crop this photo a little bit, but if you would look at the before photo, you would see the coach in the corner and framing a bit of all sorts. With the crop, it removes the distraction of the coach and also allows me to show that the base-runner is moving forward by putting him in the left-third of the photo.

Like the GSU photo, I like framing of this photo. Combine the runner on thirds and pitcher, my goal was to push your eye towards the runner of first who is taking his secondary lead.

If you’ve made it this far, shoutouts to you! I hope you got something out of this and I look forward to doing this more often.

Once again, thanks for stopping by!
